Education isn’t working—
so we’re transforming it.
Becoming a Learning Facilitator
Our entire system is learner-centered, empowering and motivating learners to learn in new ways that will help them today and tomorrow. As a learning facilitator, you are a leader. This relationship in itself is incredibly rewarding, but there are many other reasons to join us in striving to create lifelong learners and make a lasting impact.

Our Story
We want you to be a part of our mission.
Eleven years ago, Lindsay Unified School District realized that the traditional educational model wasn’t working. Students were struggling and not graduating, and some of the students who did graduate didn’t have the skills to succeed in higher education and careers. The district was defined by a negative school culture and academic struggles—not learning and support. We decided this was unacceptable.
The Lindsay community decided to take action. The school district embarked on a difficult journey to overhaul our entire educational model, changing everything from the curriculum and structure of the classrooms to the language used to interact with the system. Students became learners, teachers became learning facilitators, and in the process, the mindset of an entire community transformed.
We’re changing education, one Lindsay Learner at a time. Join us.
Our Educational Model
In Lindsay Unified, we put the learner at the center of the work. When we realized the education system was broken, we decided to do something about it—and as a result, we have completely thrown out the status quo and rewritten the rules. This is just a glimpse of our system, but if you like what you see, we invite you to take a deeper dive into our mission, core values, and beliefs and guiding principles.

Future Focused
Every part of the educational model has the future in mind. We want to prepare our learners for higher education and the world beyond, but also prepare them to lead, succeed, and be individuals of integrity as they pursue their passions.
Lifelong Learners
Core learning includes the development of lifelong learning skills and concepts, including a growth mindset that encourages learners to develop perseverance, resilience, and positivity.
Performance Level Scoring
Instead of letter grades, learners are scored in a Performance Based System model from a 0 to a 4. The focus is on learning and growth over time. The ultimate goal is to honor proficiency—learners continue learning until they achieve mastery.
Emphasis on Mastery
Learners master learning targets at a Level 3 to ensure they have the skills and concepts for the next level of learning. Learners know what they are being asked to learn and why, and are met and supported at their developmental levels.
Technology-Rich Learning Environments
The traditional classroom model has been replaced in favor of spaces that leverage technology and allow learners open-walled learning experiences, where they collaborate and receive the support they need for their levels.
Content Levels Have Replaced Grade Levels
There is less emphasis on grade level and more emphasis on the critical content of each level. Learners are not limited by their age. Instead, they are highly motivated to learn because the focus is on their learning styles, interests, and strengths.
Multi-Level Learner Groupings
Learners are grouped together based on their needs and competency levels. They are grouped into learning settings that meet their learning needs, versus their defined grade level.
Personalized Learning Plans
Learners co-create personalized learning plans that ensure they can learn at a pace that is appropriate for their needs. The time learners need to reach mastery is built into the plan with goals, supports, and measures for growth.
Anytime, Anywhere Learning
Each learner learns in different ways, so curriculum should not be one-size-fits all. Learning is 24/7, which allows for the creative and customized approaches in curriculum that empowers learners to take ownership of their learning.
Community Engagement
In Lindsay, the goals and values of the district are a direct reflection of the community and its desire to produce lifelong learners who speak multiple languages and demonstrate the habits of continuous improvement.
